Lucky Ball March 2020

The 8th Annual Lucky Ball was held at 2nd Floor Events on King St W, Toronto. An annual ball to rise money for the Fort York Food Bank . In 2017, the raised approximately $40,000 for Fort York Food Bank. Raising $40,000 would cover almost 1/3rd of the food bank’s cash operating budget for 2017. 2013, a couple of donors (Scott Shallow of Brad Lamb Realty and Sennheiser) approached the Board of Directors of the Fort York Food Bank with a $10,000 donation. The Board was ecstatic, but figured that with these guys behind them, perhaps they could leverage the $10,000 donation into something more.

That “something more” morphed into the first annual Lucky Ball, a St. Patrick’s Day-themed party. The Brad Lamb Realty / Sennheiser donation was used to rent a venue and pay for staffing. Molsons (Heineken) threw in beer for the party. Brendan Canning (Broken Social Scene) agreed to DJ the event. Whitney Pizale (W Events) and Lindsay Grange (Rethink Breast Cancer) offered to plan the party. SheDoesTheCity.com came on as a media sponsor. And Chris Murphy at CIBC stepped up to cover the cost of decor and anything else they needed. The result was that the cost of the party was completed covered and in March 2013 —- less than one month after the concept for the event was born — 300 influential young professionals attended the first annual Lucky Ball, raising almost $30,000 for Fort York Food Bank.
