Toronto Taste 2019 was a magical event from start to finish. Upon entering the beautiful Evergreen Brick Works, guests were greeted by jugglers on stilts, acrobats, aerialists, and other carnival performers as the scent of over fifty different food and beverage stations awaited them. From mouth-watering fried chicken, to vegan flatbread with chickpeas, and foie gras eclairs – Toronto Taste had a little something for everyone to enjoy.
The entire evening came together to raise funds for Second Harvest Food Rescue, which recovers unsold food before it becomes waste – and distributes it to 373 social service organizations. Some of the evening’s activities were silent and live auctions to help amass funds for this incredible charity. The other entertainment for the evening was the Chef vs. Chef vs. Chef battle. Chefs Romain Avril of Nespresso and Monogram; Ivana Raca of Ufficio; and Resto Boemo and Matthew Ravenscroft of Rosalinda competed in a 30-minute cook off. With a mystery box of ingredients and only 30 minutes on the clock, the three chefs competed live for the excited crowd and for the judges: Chef Mark McEwan, Second Harvest Ambassador and head judge on “Top Chef Canada”; Chef Sursur Lee, representing S. Pellegrino; and Chef Juriaan Snellen, executive corporate chef for McCormick Canada. After moments of deliberation Chef Ivana Raca was crowned Taste Toronto 2019’s cookoff champion and the night wound down with full bellies and thousands raised for an amazing cause.
